Fic: First Impressions
Sep. 12th, 2022 05:47 amOriginally written for Twitter, teen Jon prepares for his date with his pen pal. SFW with underage warning.
"Who are you dressing up for?"
His grandmother sounds curious and amused, which are unusual tones for her. Jon doesn't reply first, adjusting his tie in front of the mirror.
"My penpal," he says. "We're meeting for the first time today. I want to make a good impression." It's not even a lie, even though Elias isn't a peer like Jon has claimed he is. "How do I look?" Jon turns around, holding his arms out to the sides as he lets Mildred see him.
Mildred smiles at him, walking closer. She adjusts his tie once more, then straightens the lapels of his suit. It's a new one, one Jon has been saving his pocket money for, a deep, dark green in color and fitting him better than any of his other clothes do.
Yet, it's not perfect. Perfect is for when Elias takes him to the tailor, when they get something that is literally molded for Jon's body. Jon hopes they get a chance to do that one day, that Elias will like him now that they will finally meet.
"You look very handsome," Mildred says, stroking a loose strand of hair behind Jon's ear. "I'm sure your friend will be very impressed with you. You can bring him over here if you want to."
"I'll see about that," Jon says, trying not to sound nervous. It's hard not to; his whole body feels like tight knot, making it hard to even breathe.
He hopes his grandmother is right. He wants nothing more in the world than Elias to be impressed with him.
